World, Meet May(明以)

Hello again! This is Jason.

On Tuesday January 28th at 8:21am JST May(明以) came into the world. Unfortunately I didn’t make it there for the birth as she came out pretty quickly. My wife called me at 6am saying May was on her way and I was on the Shinkansen(bullet train) just past Yokohama when I received the text from my wife with her and May just after birth.

No matter. It would of been nice to have been there at the time of the birth, but when I finally got to meet her upon my arrival at the hospital in Nara, all of that didn’t matter anymore. Before I got there I was excited to meet May, but not in the way people gush about having a baby. I was more excited in the way to finally meet this little person that was in my wife all this time. When we finally met I was floored with emotions in a way I don’t think I’ve really felt before. The closest thing I can think about is it feeling like is your first crush. You are completely infatuated by them and there isn’t any jadedness or been there done that feeling that comes with age. It is innocent love all over again, but times 100.(no exaggeration) I use to get sickened by people gushing about their child, but now I understand why; however, for those without children I can still respect that it’s annoying because nobody is as excited about someone else’s children as much as the parents are.

On that note; I would like to introduce you to my first child May, but I promise not to flood the blog with photos of her as I know they are something best kept to my family and I.

With that being said I am proud of her and oddly she has blue eyes. My Grandfather had incredibly blue colored eyes. Those pasted down to my Mom, then my brother and nephew. I didn’t get them, but I guess I carry the gene. I thought though that brown was a dominant gene and blue was recessive, hence blue eyes slowing disappearing as the decades go on. Anyway, she’s got them and they are a dark blue like I’ve never seen before. They’re like a dark blue Crayola Crayon. They have a bit of gold just around the pupil, so I think her eyes might eventually turn brown. My Mom said mine were the same. Only time will tell…
